Is there a Correlation Between Stress and Hearing Health?

Check if this sounds like how your day has unfolded already:  woke up, showered, made breakfast, ran to the car, commuted to work - (wait - did I forget to turn off the coffee maker?) the warning light just popped on in the car - uggh, 125 new emails to read, the phone rings - a new work crisis with a deadline approaching , the weekly update meeting I dread is in 5 minutes  and so on - I am stressed just writing about a morning full of STRESS!
As a firm believer in the impact that stress can have on our bodies and overall well being,  I thought it would be interesting to investigate how emotional stress effects hearing loss.    What I found was eye opening!

A few years back, The Karolinska Institute in Sweden conducted a survey of over 1,000 participants aimed at understanding if a relationship existed between stress and hearing loss.

The survey discovered that a direct correlation exists between life stressors and hearing health -  the more stress that participants reported, the worse they felt there hearing was. These findings help explain why hearing impairments are on the rise in more developed countries where a fast paced, schedule packed lifestyle is the norm.
The message is simple, but often hard to do:  Relax.  Find ways to relax throughout the day and your ears will thank you for it!
