Household Safety for the Hearing Impaired

Last week within a Linkedin discussion group that I belong to, a series of comments unfolded regarding household safety.  In particular, a member shared that her husband became alarmed when he noticed that she was unable to hear the smoke alarm sounding as dinner was burning in the oven.

It made me wonder and consider some of the safety issues that hearing impaired individuals need to understand to ensure they are safe in their own home at all times.

Some of the questions that arose in my mind were:
  • What happens if there is a fire?
  • If there is a break in, how can an alarm be heard?
  • What if a neighbor had an emergency and was ringing the doorbell frantically - how can it be heard?
I'm sure there are many more that the deaf community live with every day of which I cannot even imagine.

The good news is that there are many solutions available to address these emergency situations specifically designed for the hearing impaired: strobe alarms, wearable/vibrating alarm watches, amplifiers, weather alerts, etc.

The strobe alarm is just one simple solution that Liberty Health Supply offers to address emergency notification concerns. If you have an issue and are not sure what's even available to you, please contact us.  We would be glad to help you discover the many solutions that were once unimaginable, but are now at your fingertips!
