Deafness and the Arts

I need to be perfectly honest - I wasn't sure what I was going to blog about this week!  We covered many interesting topics recently including Stress and Hearing Loss, Tinnitus, Relaxation Techniques, etc. - so now what?

It's funny how the world works as my lack of creative juices was saved yesterday by an article I read in the Chicago Tribune regarding how the ABC Family Show, Switched at Birth, was planning to air an all sign language episode, something that the network said had never been done before in the history of mainstream TV!  How courageous, I thought!

It is sure to add a layer of complexity and expense to the episode, but as Kate Juergens, head of AC Family's programming said, "It has such a reward".  You can catch a peek at the episode here in case you missed it:  Switched at Birth All Sign Language Episode - if you had a chance to check it out, we would love to hear your thoughts!

So, with the lucky discovery of this interesting piece on entertainment and the deaf community, I thought it would be interesting to see what else I can dig up on how mainstream media is presenting and at times integrating deaf awareness/topics/programming - check back on Thursday to see what else I found, but in the meantime, if you know of anything interesting regarding Deafness and the Arts, let us know below!
